Tools

Charles, the founder of Pasta Zaddy, approached us to develop a mobile application tailored to his unique brand. Having cultivated a substantial following through hosting intimate pop-up culinary events at his residence, Charles sought to enhance the experience for his community. The primary objective of the app is to simplify the booking process for these pop-ups and provide a platform for sharing his pasta recipes with his audience.

THE PROBLEM

There isn't a straightforward way for Charles' community to book his events and learn more about his recipes.

IDEATION

Figuring it all out

Defining User Flows

We knew the core of the app would be the events booking section and magazine. We also needed to figure out a way for Charles to communicate with his users. Working with the developers, we outlined each feature flow.

DESIGN

Building Charles' brand

Colors and Elements

The first thing that our team had to wrap our heads around was that this app had to reflect a personal brand. That meant Charles was the one who determined what represents him and his personality.

Charles had an idea of what core colors represented him and his community. He wanted a dark theme with a bright pink to give a similar ambiance to what he wanted his restaurant to look like in the future.

Another important element to him was hearts as he's known for wearing heart-shaped glasses.

Typography

We settled with League Spartan as Charles really liked the letters in all-caps and it screamed night jazz club. It was clean and modern and could be turned into a sign.

In addition, Libre Baskerville was used to complement League Spartan to give the app's type and magazine a book-like feel.

Lo-fis

A quick look at lo-fis for the homepage, magazine, event calendar, and blog. We had to consider many complex interactions within the app, such as the magazine's swiping system. Charles also wanted full-screen photos to show off photos of his recipes.

Design systems and developer talk

Outlining Component Specs

When talking to developers, design has to be strictly detailed out in order for it to be carried out in the final product. We created a design system and created specs for each compenent.
